We’re proud to share news of our first award-winning wines of the year – yet another achievement that reflects the passion and dedication of our committed team of winemakers.
This year our Scherpenheuwel winery, nestled in the cooler southern reaches of the Western Cape’s Breede River Valley, has been awarded 19 medals (4 Great Gold and 15 Gold) at the 2025 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition in Spain.
With four of our wines earning a prestigious Great-Gold award, this early recognition sets a promising tone for the year ahead for our third-generation winery.
About the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition Spain
The Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition (CWWSC), held annually in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, counts among the world’s most prestigious international wine competitions. It champions the production of high-quality wines and spirits, fostering a global appreciation for excellence in winemaking.
The 2025 competition saw entries from over 20 countries, with thousands of wines judged by an expert panel through a blind tasting process. Of these, only a select few wines were awarded the coveted Great Gold, with around 400 achieving Gold.
